Yes, I know. I’m a little late to the internet phenomenon game. This link was circulated via various social outlets and personal emails early last week, and it wasn’t until I leaped to my brother’s Facebook page in an effort to find a picture of him wearing the socks I gave him for the holidays did I find myself engaged with this amazing piece of filmography:
Here’s why I love this clip: it’s not because of the seemingly ludicrous notion that someone would run straight through hurdles at break-neck* speed. I love this clip because of the head-space this hurdler must have been in. He’s trained to run hurdles. His body has muscle memory designed to run hurdles. There’s one thing this guy is doing today, and it’s running hurdles, no matter how it gets done.
I doubt this hurdler even considered stopping. It wasn’t in his muscle bank.
And I admire that commitment to the goal. Fail or not, he tried.
*”nake-breck” for any family members out there.
