Sometimes I listen to the song “Fame” from Fame on repeat while I’m running. (Don’t judge.) I was doing just this very thing today while I ran, and it occurred to me that one reason I connect to the song while on a jog is because I running makes me feel like I’m going to live forever, learn how to fly (HIGH!), and I sort of hope the world hasn’t seen the best of me yet. And I guess that’s all the inspiration I need when I’m running; by breathing, by keeping my lungs healthy, and by attempting to look fit, I’m still trying to get to the best I have to offer myself. Yes, even I need motivation to get out the door.
Besides, the Lake Merrit community definitely works well through the Fame lens; I watched two slender dancers practicing a routine in a gazebo, a wooden-sword fight lesson, and a group of novice cyclists while listening to the song, and it all felt so appropriate. I sort of wanted to sing out to them as I ran by, to offer them support and cheerleading to keep on their paths.
