Dear South Orange County ~
I was willing to give you another chance, after my initial reaction to what you have to immediately offer a runner when cruising through Anaheim. I am pleased to reprort that my second run, through Laguna Nigel, was much more interesting.
One of my favorite parts of running through Laguna Nigel was the immense amount of rolling hills I had to choose from. While on street surfaces, I could either take to flats or to considerably lengthy inclines.
There was also substantial wildlife to enjoy. More than once, a rabbit skittered through the bushes to the side of me as I approached, a sight we don’t tend to have in the Bay Area. And there were a few bicyclists out, as well as an intense recreation soccer game for the voyuerist runner to feast upon. Humans and rabbits and soccer, oh my! Sounds like a perfect meeting for the Briar Soccer Club.
Weather wise, the air was crisp, and even felt clean! Southern California has many tricks up her sleeve for me. I ran early in the day, but still.
My only complaint? While I enjoy exploring a new city by foot, I have to say that the number of shopping complexes I passed was surprising, and made for a dull backdrop a lot of the time. Three Starbuckses (Starkbucki?) in thirty minutes? Every box store and bank you could imagine? Tilly’s? (Tilly’s is everywhere down there.) Part of me was annoyed, and part of me was just really glad I don’t run with my pocketbook on me. A good shopping session is almost as relaxing as a good run.
So kudos to you Orange County. Let’s see how you continue to pan out.
